Burn marks

Burn marks

Burn marks on the carpet are rather rare. However, they happen relatively quickly if you have an accident with a cigarette, a candle, or flying sparks at a festive occasion. The best thing you can do is to carefully cut off the burned part of the carpet using nail scissors. However, this only works if the carpet is not burned too deeply.

Coke, juice and lemonade

Coke, juice and lemonade

All it takes is one mistake. The coke bottle was shaken too much or the glass of juice was knocked over. As this scenario often plays out at parties or family gatherings, the best option is to remove the stain before it dries. First, you should try to soak up as much of the coke as possible. You can use some white kitchen roll or a cotton cloth. If there is still a spot visible after soaking it up, you can use an ammonia solution to gently dab the stain. If the stain is still there after this, you should then try using vinegar.

Blood stains

Blood stains

Blood stains on the carpet are often the result of accidents during cooking or from a nose bleed. They are not only really annoying on clothing, they are on carpets too. As with most stains, acting quickly is the best thing to do. With blood stains too you should first try to soak it up using kitchen roll or a cotton cloth. Any remains of the stain that cannot be removed by soaking it up can be diluted using water and then soaked up again using kitchen roll or a cloth. You can also add some special cleaning agent to the water. If the stains are from fresh blood, you should use cold water. Otherwise you may also use lukewarm water. If trying to soak up the stain a second time does not work, try using water and a little washing-up liquid. If there are still remains of the blood there, use a 5% ammonia solution and gently dab the carpet.

Wine

Wine and other alcoholic drinks

At a party, spilled wine is one of the most common causes of stains on the carpet. However, you do not need to let such a little mishap ruin your mood. Simply remove the alcohol as soon as possible. To do so, completely soak up the liquid using kitchen roll or a cotton cloth. Then treat the carpet with a special cleaning agent and then dab it with white spirit. If they are beer stains, mix warm water with the spirit and then dab the carpet with this mixture.

Ice cream stains

Ice cream stains

Children and ice cream – that just cries out for stains on the carpet. Ice cream can pretty quickly end up on the floor when the kids are playing. Yet this kind of accident can be fixed pretty quickly. First scrape up the ice cream using a spoon and remove as much of it as possible. If there is still a stain afterwards, take a cotton cloth, soak it with a weak ammonia solution and carefully dab the carpet.

Grease and oil stains

Grease and oil stains

Grease stains are not only really annoying on clothing, they are on carpets too. However, the stain can be removed almost completely if you react quickly. First scratch off grease stains using a spoon. Then soak a cotton cloth with a mild cleaning agent and dab the stain with it. If the stain is still visible afterwards, you can treat it with a vinegar solution.

Coffee stains

Coffee stains

Who hasn’t been there: made a coffee in the morning half asleep and oops... coffee spilled. But no need to panic – our experts have the perfect solution. Soak up as much of the coffee as possible using a cotton cloth or kitchen roll. Then work on the stain using a weak ammonia solution. If the stain is still visible, repeat this treatment again.

Chewing gum

Chewing gum

This sticky stain will lead to everyone crying for help. That’s when our experts come into play. First, freeze the chewing gum. To do so, take a piece of ice and place it on the chewing gum so that it is completely covered. Freezing it makes the chewing gum go hard and it can then be easily removed. However, if there are still remains of the chewing gum on the carpet, use a stain remover specifically designed for this purpose.

Lipstick

Lipstick

This kind of stain is a real pain because lipsticks often have eye-catching colours. Scrape the lipstick off the carpet using a spoon. If the stain does not disappear completely, treat it with a mild cleaning agent. Dab the cleaning agent onto carpet using a sponge. If after using the cleaning agent you can still see the stain, use ammonia and/or a vinegar solution.

Milk

Milk

In the morning during a relaxed breakfast with the family: all it takes is one tiny mishap. Whether while pouring your milk into the coffee or if you drop a glass. We have the best tip to make sure your morning peace remains undisturbed. Simply soak up as much of the milk as possible from the carpet using kitchen roll or a cotton cloth. If you can still see the remains of the stain, take a cloth and drizzle it with a mild cleaning agent. Carefully wipe the carpet with the cloth. If the spot still hasn’t completely disappeared, you can treat it using a mild ammonia solution and, if necessary, with a vinegar solution.

Ink

Ink

Ink stains are stains you don’t see so often these days. However, they can still happen quickly and ruin a carpet. First spray the ink stain with hair spray in order to avoid persistent stains on the carpet. Once the hair spray has dried, dilute the stain with water and spirit vinegar and carefully brush it out using a brush.

Wax

Wax

During a romantic evening you can quickly forget the candle as well as the time. The liquid wax drips onto the carpet and cools. How on earth are you going to remove the stain now? Our experts also have an answer for this kind of stain. Place blotting paper on the wax stain and go over it with an iron. As soon as the wax has heated up sufficiently, it becomes liquid and can be soaked up by the blotting paper. However, it is very important to make sure that the iron does not get too hot and that you keep it moving constantly. If the iron stays in the same place on the carpet for too long, this can result in burn marks.

Tea

Tea

Whether at work or at home – we’ve all seen tea stains on the carpet or left traces where our mag was placed. Our experts have some advice for this type of stain too. Soak up as much of the tea as possible using kitchen roll with kitchen paper or with a cotton cloth. If the stain still hasn’t completely disappeared, you should soak a sponge with a weak ammonia solution and then dab the carpet with it.

Nail polish

Nail polish

It happens quickly when you’re in a hurry and trying to paint your nails... suddenly you’ve knocked over the bottle or drops of varnish land on the carpet from nails that aren’t yet completely dry. Nail polish stains are annoying. Try to scrape off as much of the nail polish as possible using a spoon. If some of the stain is still visible, carefully treat it using nail polish remover until it has completely disappeared.

Mustard

Mustard

Quickly eating a hot dog or a sandwich while walking around and oops... a mustard stain on the carpet is annoying, but it doesn’t spell the end for your carpet. The faster you scrape off the mustard with a spoon the better. If traces of the mustard are still visible, use a cotton cloth with a mild cleaning agent. Then dab the stain with the cloth. If necessary, repeat the process again using a weak ammonia solution.

Dirt caused by animals

Dirt caused by animals

No matter whether it’s a dog, cat or domestic pig. Any animal that goes outside brings dirt back inside. You’re not paying attention for just a second and just like that your beloved four-legged friend has had an accident. Suddenly the carpet is covered in faeces or urine. With urine stains, you should clean the carpet with plenty of water straightaway in order to remove as much of the urine as possible. It is important to treat the carpet with water multiple times in succession in order to dilute the urine until it is almost completely gone. This is important because the urine would otherwise significantly damage the carpet fibres. The water used for cleaning can then be soaked up with kitchen roll or a cotton cloth. Then dab the affected area with a vinegar solution. After doing this, place several cotton cloths over the entire cleaning area and fix them in place using a heavy object. You should then leave this area to dry for at least six hours. With faeces stains, first pick up the solid pieces of faeces with a plastic bag. Then use a commercially available cleaning agent to clean the carpet. After cleaning, dab the carpet dry and then rinse with plenty of water. The affected area should then be dabbed dry again. For good measure, you should spray the whole affected area using a disinfectant. There are special disinfectants for dirt caused by animal faeces. Your vet will be able to recommend you a suitable product. However, exercise caution when using disinfectants because they can discolour the carpet. For this reason, always test the disinfectant first on a non-visible part of the carpet to see whether it causes discolouring.

Tomato sauce, ketchup or mayo

Tomato sauce, ketchup or mayo

During a wild barbecue party it can sometimes happen that a sausage with ketchup and mayo rolls off someone’s plate. We recommend treating the strain straightaway so that the relaxed atmosphere is not disturbed by such a small mishap. To do so, first remove the major residues and wipe the carpet immediately. The best option is to take cold water to soak the stain for about 20 minutes. If the ketchup stains are already dry, remove the residues first using a blunt object and then soak the stain. Then wash out the stain using a solution of lukewarm water and soap (or vinegar). Do not rub here either. The best option is to now leave the carpet for a few hours until it is completely dry. If there are still visible stains, you can dab them using spirit and carefully rub away the stain. However, you must be careful with spirit because it can cause the carpet to fade. You should always test spirit in an inconspicuous place first in order to avoid damaging the colour authenticity.

Chocolate

Chocolate

Almost all households have these kinds of stains. And chocolate in particular doesn’t look particularly attractive on a carpet. If the chocolate is well and truly stuck to the carpet, you should first try to scrape off the top layer. Now take a sponge and some cold water and rub the stain. Then continue to treat the stain using warm water. Afterwards, you can add a little soap to the stain and remove the residues this way. It is best to use bile soap. Depending on the colour and type of carpet, you may also be able to treat it using baking powder or vinegar essence. However, you must not forget that they can both have a bleaching effect. So you would be best to test it in an inconspicuous place first. However, there may still be grease stains left once the chocolate has been removed. You can easily remove them using a good home remedy. This works best with potato flour, which can be found in many households. To do so, simply spread the flour on the carpet and let it work its magic. After a while, simply brush the flour from the carpet and removes the residues. All the grease stains should then be gone. You can also use commercially-available mineral water as an alternative to potato flour. The advantage of mineral water is that many people always have it at home and don’t have to go shopping especially for it. Simply pour some mineral water onto the carpet stain and let it work its magic. After a while, very carefully dab the carpet using kitchen roll and absorb the fat this way.

Glue

Glue

Whether while doing some handiwork or renovating, everyone’s dropped some glue on the carpet before. But there’s no need to despair, just act quickly before the glue dries on the carpet. Glue residues on carpets can be removed by extreme cooling the affected area. You can place small carpets in the freezer and with large ones use ice cubes. Most glues can then easily be peeled or chipped off when frozen. You can also knock it off, but the whole thing needs to be properly frozen to do so. The glue then flies away when you hit it and there’s usually nothing left behind. With long-fibre carpets you need to wait until the glue is dry and then carefully cut it out using a razor blade – of course in a way that means as few fibres as possible are removed. You can also scrape with the blade until all the glue residues are gone.

Soil and dirt

Soil and dirt

Soil and dirt are secret companions to every walk across the carpet. If you constantly have people walking around your home, you can still pay attention. Sooner or later stains will become visible. While the soil you had on your shoes and then trod into the carpet is still dry, you should try to carefully remove it by hand. Carefully lift off the bits of dirt using your fingers without pushing the dirt even deeper into the carpet. Then you can leave the remaining soil to dry. Some vacuum cleaners are fitted with a rotating carpet brush. This brush for cleaning is particularly thorough and removes lots of dirt from the carpet. Soil has a different composition depending on the region. Particularly stubborn soil stains occur when the soil contains a lot of iron. Once you’ve vacuumed the dirty carpet, you can normally remove soil stains using a soft cloth and clear water. When cleaning, you should make sure not to rub the soil stains deeper into the carpet, but rather wash them out. If soil stains that cannot be removed using a vacuum cleaner are still visible after intense cleaning you should use stain remover. It is also possible to remove soil stains caused by soil containing iron. You just have to proceed as if removing a rust stain. You can remove rust stains either using a mixture of oxalic acid and vinegar essence or using lemon juice and salt.

Mould

Mould

Mould stains on the carpet usually go unnoticed because they happen in places that you don’t see every day. Despite this, you should remove these kinds of stains as quickly as possible because they don’t just not look nice, they also pose a risk to your health. If the mould stains on fabrics are a bit more pronounced, a simple soap and sunlight can remove the stains – or instead of the sun you can apply some cold bleach to the stain. If none of that works, you can add lemon juice to the mould stain, leave it to soak in, sprinkle with salt and then leave it in the blazing sun. However, with sensitive fabrics you should try this out in a non-visible place first.

Fruit and vegetables

Fruit and vegetables

Summertime means fruit time. Of all things, red, blue and purple fruits are the most delicious and the sweetest. Yet when they land on your carpet, they cause the most eye-catching stains. First rinse the stain in clear, cold water. It is immensely important to use cold and clear water without any additives. After rinsing, use plenty of gall soap and rub it into the stain. Then leave the gall soap for a while to work its magic. Once it has had time to act, thoroughly rinse out the carpet again using cold water. The sun is also a great help for vegetable stains. First, rinse out the stains using clear, cold water and then place the carpet in the sun to dry. In most cases the stains will disappear without any residue and everything is right as rain again.
