Blue - a cool, calm and deep colour
In the three colour theory, blue is one of the basic colours from which all other colours can be mixed. The human eye perceives blue tones very strongly or, put another way: only a very small part of the light spectrum appears to our eyes as the colour blue. It’s a cold colour, which is an important factor when choosing rugs and other interior items for your home. However, there are also a few warm blue tones, such as ultramarine, which have a red portion that is not directly visible to the eye. The two most important associations with blue are the sea and the sky, both of which symbolise depth and width. From its emotional effect, the coolness of blue can be taken quite literally. In the living room and dining room, a blue rug works well as the visual centre of the room. The colour's quiet and orderly character develops beautifully here. Extremely stylish combinations can be achieved with tasteful grey floors with furniture and walls in green. Combined with purely metal furniture, ultramarine or a warmer blue tone is a good choice for your rug.
Blue rugs in the kitchen and hallway
You can expect rugs in the kitchen and hallway to get dirtier than rugs in the living room or bedroom. This should also be reflected in your choice of blue tones. Rugs with ornate patterns in various blue shades, which can easily be cleaned, are ideal here. In the kitchen, with its typically light and often white background, a dark-blue patterned rug stands out very well. Placed in front of the oven, a robust blue runner provides optimal protection for the floor. Not only does it catch splashes of fat, it also protects your tiles if ever a heavy pan is dropped on them. A blue high-pile rug is recommended in the hallway. Not just an attractive colour, it also provides the necessary warmth in what is usually a cool room.
